Journal Research Desk

This continues the series of blog posts I’m writing about an app that I’ve been building that will provide numerous ways to look for information about what Midwest Quakers have been doing in recent times.

The reason I named this the Journal Research Desk is because all of the writings in this database come from eight blogs I’ve created and written on since 2015.

The purpose of this app is not to promote what I write, but instead provide a glimpse into what was happening in the wider world at the time, and how that looked through one Quaker’s eyes. The chronological nature of the posts often show how ideas develop over time.

This is a link to the User Guide that explains the app in detail. https://kislingjeff-oss.github.io/JAKPublicBlogDatabase/desk/#guide

Journal Research Desk

This is what the heading of the Journal Research Desk app looks like.

I introduced these ideas a few days ago with this blog post: Dynamic Queries, which took a deeper look into our use of queries and how this app allows you to explore subjects related to the particular query under consideration.

Yesterday I wrote about the Verified Facts part of this application (which you can see on the menu above). I thought it would be important for people using the Research Desk to have outside references that support what the blog was about.

Browse the library

When you select BROWSE from the menu above, you are presented with two ways to browse the library.

This half of the BROWSE page has a panel for each of the eight blogs in the database. This blog is Channels into Knowledge, which it says has 56 posts that began Aug 7, 2026. Clicking on the panel will then list all of the blog posts that have been published from that blog.

Most used tags

Also on the BROWSE page is a list of the most used tags from all of the blog sites. Clicking on a tag will display all of the blog posts that are related to your selection, across all of the eight blog sites.
